According to a recent study Burlington, VT is the healthiest city in America. About 92 percent of the population reported they are in good or great health. What makes it healthier than other cities?

Vermont has the highest level of exercise. More people are focused on outdoor activities like hiking, biking and skiing compared to other cities.

This state has low percentage of obesity, diabetes and other preventable diseases compared to other cities.

Neighborhood groups are focused on improving parks, working in community gardens and improving sidewalks.

Burlington has healthy restaurant options like vegan restaurants or restaurants offering grass-fed beef.

IBM and other employers offer generous health benefits and corporate wellness programs.

What are some ways you can boost the health in your community? Some ideas might be: organize a group of friends or neighbors together for a weekly or monthly bike ride, talk to restaurant owners and chefs about the ingredients they use in their dishes or propose ideas to the human resources department at your company to see what actions they’re taking to improve the health of their employees. No action is too small or too big.
