Celebrate World Baking Day with these 7 RAWsome Desserts
Did you know that yesterday was World Baking Day? It’s no surprise, given that it seems like every food has its own day: August 2nd is National Ice Cream Day, April 26th is National Pretzel Day, and October 1st is World Vegetarian Day. I’m not sure who determined all of these “holidays,” but I love any reason to celebrate food.
Anyone who knows me knows that I love a good sweet treat. More specifically, I’m a huge cookie and carrot cake fan. I love simple baked goods. As much as I love these decadent goodies, I keep the indulgences occasional and have a newfound love for “healthified” desserts. Even though these healthified treats have nourishing and healthy ingredients, they are still desserts and should be treated as such.
One of my favorite foodie trends right now is raw food. I don’t think that I could eat a completely raw diet, but I love experimenting with new ways of cooking and eating. A Raw diet consists of raw vegan foods that have not been heated above 115 degrees Fahrenheit or 46 degrees Celcius, as raw foodists believe that foods lose their nutritional value when cooked.
In honor of World Baking Day, I’ve rounded up some of my favorite raw dessert recipes from around the web. How can you celebrate baking without using the oven, you may ask? I promise you, you’ll be pleasantly surprised.
