Super Bowl Recipes – You Pinned it … We Made it Healthy!

February 1, 2013

It’s that time of year again. The time when we all tune in to judge TV commercials like we’ve never judged them before. When our daily green juice is mysteriously swapped for a bowl of queso, and the endless debate over MVP of Puppy Bowl IX gets heated. And some people even watch football!

That’s right – it’s Super Bowl Sunday.

While we can’t weigh in on which team, or puppy, will come out on top, we can help you enjoy the day without over-indulging in unhealthy foods. We scoured Pinterest for some of the most pinned Super Bowl recipes, and came up with easy ingredient swaps you can do to make them healthy and delicious!

Potato Skins – Swap out the potatoes for sweet potatoes and top them with fresh guacamole, a dollop of Greek yogurt, and chives.

Nachos – Give this fan-favorite a facelift by making your own tortilla chips! Just cut whole wheat tortillas and bake until crispy. Top with fresh tomatoes, avocado, black beans and organic cheddar.

Pizza– Swap the crust for polenta and add on your favorite toppings. To make them appetizer-sized, pour the cooked polenta into  muffin tins, add the toppings, and bake.

Chili – This is a great way to add a healthy kick to your Super Bowl spread! Swap out the ground beef for organic ground turkey, or skip the meat all together and bulk up on beans. You can even mix in some fresh chopped spinach or kale.
